STEM Explorers

Branding / Character Design / Social Media

The what

STEM Explorers is a fictional summer camp designed to ignite curiosity and cultivate passion for science, technology, engineering, and math in children aged 5 to 13. Our team worked on creating a brand identity that captures the camp’s interactive experience, with sub-brand identities and branded characters to emphasize the specific focus areas within STEM.

The why

A couple of things would need to be changed. For example, changing the size of the card would also mean changing the layout and One of the biggest challenges was the huge age gap between 5 to 13 years old.

How do we make visuals that all kids, no matter their age, would enjoy without feeling out of place?

Kids within this age frame have different interests and literary levels, so focusing on creating a strong and captivating visual identity that interests them was the key to the success of this project.. This would’ve been inevitable since the standard ones also rely on the symmetry of the elements to communicate the numbers no matter how they’re held. So…

The how

Kids, no matter the age, love cartoons and get attached to characters. Our solution was to integrate character mascots into the brand and assign each to their representative sub-brand. As the character designer, I’ve focused on creating simple yet fun characters full of personality. Adding variations to their heights also helped represent the wide age gap of the kids.

The end

We finished the project by creating a brand guideline for STEM Explorers and applying it through various marketing materials. Some of these materials included social media posts, billboards, posters, and a website for the parents to sign up their kids for the camp.
